Trip Introduction

Jomsom and Muktinath trekking is the one of the world’s classic walks. It is in the Annapurna and Mustang regions of Nepal. It is a relatively easy walk meandering through villages and rhododendron forests. We can test our stamina at the Ulleri Hill with more than 3,300 stone steps, one of the world's largest numbers of stone steps on a hill of this kind. You will find Tibetan-style scenery of the upper Kali Gandaki Valley. The walk passes picturesque villages home to Gurungs, Manangis and Thakalis. We also visit Muktinath Temple which is an important place of pilgrimage for Hindus and Buddhists alike and dipping our bodies into the hot spring at Tatopani. Our trek will end at Jomsom the most one beautiful village and culture.

Outline itinerary

Day 01:Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300 m)

Day 02:Fly to Pokhara (823 m) 30 minutes flight. Drive to Nayapul and trek to Ulleri (2050 m): 30 min flight and 6 hours trek

Day 03:Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,750 m): 4 - 5 hours trek

Day 04:Ghorepani to Tatopani (1,190m): 5-6 hours

Day 05:Tatopani to Ghasa (2,110 m): 5-6 hours

Day 06:Ghasa to Marpha (2,680 m): 4-5 hours

Day 07:Marpha to Kagbeni (2,810 m): 4-5 hours

Day 08:Kagbeni to Muktinath (3,710 m): 5-6 hours

Day 09:Muktinath to Jomsom (2,715 m): 5-6 hours.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1
    Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300 m)

    Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Thai Nepal Travels. After picking up your luggage and look for our representative with a Thai Nepal Travels display board at the arrival gate. After that, you will be transferred to Hotel. After check-in, you can take a rest, hang around in the city - it all depends on your interests and condition. In the evening we will organize a "Welcome Dinner" at an excellent traditional Nepalese Restaurant where you will enjoy Nepalese cultural programs as well as a fine meal.

  • Day 2
    Fly to Pokhara (823 m) 30 minutes flight. Drive to Nayapul and trek to Ulleri (2050 m): 30 min flight and 6 hours trek

    Today after breakfast the early morning we fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m.) take about 30 minutes. Pokhara is 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu it is tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites. After reaching to Pokhara we are a drive to Nayapul and starting of our trek. We follow the River Bhurungdi east, passing lowland rice fields, local villages and a small waterfall. We cross the Modi Khola (river) via a suspension bridge to the village of Tikhedunga. After Tikhedunga village the Ulleri Hill with thousands of steps and boulders that continually go upward will really prove a test of our stamina. We reach Ulleri by late afternoon and overnight in Ulleri.

  • Day 3
    Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,750 m): 4 - 5 hours trek

    Today we make our ascent to the Ghorepani village. The name of Ghorepani in Nepali means horse-water owing to its role as an important campsite for traders before it became a trekker's stop. A strenuous day today as we climb 3300 stone steps to Ulleri, from here we will have magnificent views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli, later in the trek we will also see Fishtail Mountain. After you have conquered the thousands of steps, the trail becomes easier as we pass Banthati and walk through the rhododendron forest overnight at teahouse at Ghorepani.

  • Day 4
    Ghorepani to Tatopani (1,190m): 5-6 hours

    We make an early morning climb along the steep trail to the viewpoint of Poon Hill (3,210m). The Poon hill will reward you with spectacular sunrise views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Take time here to soak up the tranquil atmosphere. We return back to Ghorepani. Upon breakfast, we descend steeply to Sikha, a large village & further descend to Ghar Khola Village. After crossing suspension bridge it climbs up at Tatopani. Tatopani, meaning Hot Water in Nepali derives its name from the hot springs there. We dipping our bodies and relax into the hot spring at Tatopani. We are overnight here.

  • Day 5
    Tatopani to Ghasa (2,110 m): 5-6 hours

    Today after breakfast you have to follow the trail that ascends gently up the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, towards the village of Dana, which is surrounded by orange groves. En route, you come across local people selling baskets of oranges. Just beyond the small hamlet of Rupse, a thundering waterfall cascades down beside the trail. Thereafter, the trail enters the steepest and narrowest section of the gorge. You will find the layered stone path well-constructed and wide. As the rock cliff ends, you head towards Ghasa, a quaint Thakali village. You can see several flat-roofed Tibetan style houses in Ghasa. We are overnight at Ghasa.

  • Day 6
    Ghasa to Marpha (2,680 m): 4-5 hours

    Today after breakfast we will trek from Ghasa towards Marpha the village is famous for apple farm. A few hours of descents soon follow other rock-strewn ascents through forests of fir, cypress, and juniper along the riverbank of Kali Gandaki. As soon as you reach Larjung, you will see marvel at the architectural grandeur of this small town; tunnels, narrow alleyways, and houses built in traditional style presents an interesting sight. From Larjung, we cross trail via Tukche at 2590m and apple farm projects which produce apple and vegetable for the whole region until you get to Marpha Village. We are overnight at Marpha.

  • Day 7
    Marpha to Kagbeni (2,810 m): 4-5 hours

    Today we continue trekking towards to Kagbeni. We will walk through Jomsom village the landscape becomes increasingly arid and impressive with its mixture of browns, yellows, and grays contrasting with the white snow-capped peaks of Tilicho and Nilgiri. From Jomsom, the trek continues on the gradual path on the Kali Gandaki river bed for about 3 hrs. Then finally reaching Kagbeni it is an interesting windswept village situated on the main age-old Trans Himalayan salt trade route to Tibet via Upper Mustang area. We are overnight at Kagbeni.

  • Day 8
    Kagbeni to Muktinath (3,710 m): 5-6 hours

    After breakfast, we continue heading towards to Muktinath. You will see the view of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri as you ascend to Khingar (3200 meters). More meadows, streams and lush vegetation can be seen along the trail as it paves to Jharkot (3500 meters). You encounter the ruins of the Dzong and pristine villages of Purang and Changur. As you trek past mule stables and steep barren hillside, you enter Ranipauwa. Ranipauwa for years has remained an ideal resting point for pilgrims and travelers. We are overnight here.

  • Day 9
    Muktinath to Jomsom (2,715 m): 5-6 hours.

    Today after breakfast we visit Muktinath temple. Muktinath is a pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus alike. You’ll see a grove of trees; include a Buddhist Gompas, a Vishnu temple and the Jwalamai (Goddess of Fire). After visit Muktinath temple we retrace our steps to Jomsom. We are staying overnight in Jomsom.

  • Day 10
    Jomsom to Pokhara by flight

    Today we catch an early morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara the flight takes around 20 minutes. On arrival at Pokhara airport, you will transfer to the hotel. We make use of the rest afternoon for discovering the beautiful Pokhara Valley leisurely. While we walk along the bank of Phewa Lake, a second biggest lake of Nepal, we cannot stop admiring the state of Fish Tail Mountain reflecting in the lake. We can also take a boat around the Fewa Lake or just can take an hour's walk to the World Peace Pagoda. Evening time, we spend exploring the lakeside and overnight at Pokhara.

  • Day 11
    Drive to Kathmandu

    After breakfast we are driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu, you head up to Damauli, Dumre, Muglin, and Kurintar where Nepal's first Cable car is operated to reach to Manakamana Temple. Upon our arrival in Kathmandu, we will be escorted to our hotel. You can do some shopping or walk around in the streets of Thamel, or take a rest, hang around in the city - it all depends on your interests and condition. In the evening, there will be a farewell dinner hosted by Thai Nepal Travels to celebrate the successful completion of our trip. Overnight in Kathmandu. And overnight at Kathmandu.

    Final departure

    Our 12 days Jomsom-Muktinath treks come to an end today. A representative from Thai Nepal Travels will take you to the airport approximately 2 hours before the scheduled flight. Important Note:

Your safety is of paramount concern while traveling with THAI NEPAL TRAVELS. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails traveling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, the health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.

For the person who cannot continue trek until the end of trekking in case of any reason, he/she please note that there will be no refund. In case of the flight delay/cancellation after finishing of the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transport, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.

For all accommodations at Annapurna base camp trek are in local lodges on a twin, triple or four-bed sharing basis. If we prefer a single room, we may indicate our preference and get single rooms on request by paying a single supplement. However, there are several places that do not allow single accommodations in the Annapurna base camp.

 

Accommodations

We will be providing you at Hotel Marshyangdi or equivalent in Kathmandu, Hotel Landmark or equivalent in Pokhara and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on the twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional.

Meals

During the trek, you can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the tea-houses or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available while in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.
