This is our most popular itinerary, it’s also a once-in-a-lifetime to view highest mountain in the world, the Mt.Everest with 8848m. above sea level. After spending your first 3 days in Lhasa city for main tourist sites visiting, then we will get ready to start the journey to Mt.Everest, we’ll stop by holy Yamdrok Lake, the glistening Karola Glacier and Khumbum Stupa in Gyantse and Shigatse. From there we’ll go up to over 5000 meters to spend a night at Everest Base Camp and enjoy watching the beautiful sunset that night and viewing glorious sunrise in the next morning before returning back to Lhasa.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1
    Arrival In Lhasa (3680 m)

    Taking flight into Tibet will give you a panorama of the snowy Himalaya Mountains Or 1-2 days of train riding over the high plateau by crossing Tanggula Mountains with beautiful sceneries along the way. Once you arrive, our local Tibetan tour guide and driver will greet you at Lhasa Airport/Railway to transfer you to the hotel. From airport to downtown Lhasa, it takes about 1.2 hrs; from Lhasa Railway Station, about 20 mins. After transferred to hotel, the rest of the day you will be free to wander around the city on your own but try not to overtax yourself. The first day's well-rest is crucial to acclimatize high altitude. Remember to drink lots of water, eat light, and not to shower if you can help it.

  • Day 2
    Lhasa Suburb

    Today’s first attraction is to visit Drepung Monastery which is the world's largest monastery that housed for more than 10,000 monks; it was the resident of the Dalai Lama. After lunch, you will continue to visit the Sera Monastery which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa's disciple Jamchen Choeje. The most attractive thing of Sera Monastery is Buddhist Scriptures debating held in the courtyard between 15:00 - 17:00 from Monday to Saturday. Stay overnight in Lhasa, 3★

  • Day 3
    Lhasa City

    In the morning our guide will meet you at the hotel and first take you to visit famous Potala Palace, the cardinal landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan architecture, it was first built by 33rd King Songtsen Gangpo in the 7th century and rebuilt it later in 17th century by 5th Dalai Lama, now it is a museum and world heritage site.

    In the afternoon, we will go to visit Jokhang Temple in the center of the old Lhasa city. Jokhang Temple is one of the most sacred temples in all over Tibet and it is always bustling with earnest local pilgrims since from early days. After that you will take a walk around the Barkhor street which is the one of the most devotional circuit as well as crowded central market of Lhasa, Barkhor Street is located in the old area of Lhasa City Tibet, it is a very ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Temple and the locals are always proud of it. As a symbol of Lhasa, it is also a must-see place for visitors.Stay overnight in Lhasa, 3★

  • Day 4
    Lhasa- Gyantse (4040 m) - Shigatse (3840 m), 360 km, Approx 6 hrs

    We will pass by Kampala pass (4794 m) on the way from Lhasa to Shigatse and visit Yamdrok Lake, it is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet, and it’s around 70 km long. The lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams.

    Later we will pass and enjoy the Karola Glacier on the roadside. It is about 300m from the main highway with easy access on your way to Gyantse.

    Then visit Pelkor Chode Monastery is the main monastery in Gyantse. Pelkhor Choede in Gyantse town is located about 230 km to the south of Lhasa and 100 km to the east of Shigatse. The monastery is a short walk from the heart of the town.Stay overnight in Shigatse, 3★

  • Day 5
    Shigatse - Tingri - EBC (5200 m), 350 km, Approx 7 hrs

    In the morning, you will leave Shigatse to Lhatse, a small town located 150 km from Shigatse, and you may have lunch in local restaurant. After a short rest, you will go ahead to Tingri. You will pass Tsola Pass(4600 m), and Gyatsola Pass(5248M). In the late afternoon, you enter Mt. Everest National Nature Reserve. You can enjoy the panorama of Himalaya at Gawula Pass (5198m).Then we drive along the New zigzag road to Rongpuk or the Tent Camp to stay overnight. If the weather is good, you can have a clear view of the sunset of golden Everest peak.

    If it’s summertime (usually May~Oct), we will carry on the last few kilometers to Everest Tent Camp to stay the night; if winter time (usually Nov~Apr), we will stay at Rongbuk Monastery’s guesthouse. Both places have but only dorm bed lodging available. Both places you can see the glorious Everest sunset if the weather is good.

  • Day 6
    EBC - Shigatse, 350 km, Approx 6 hrs

    You can get up early and enjoy the sunrise of Everest Peak at lodging area if the weather is good. And then, you can take the Eco-bus to the Everest Base Camp. If you like trekking, you can do a short trek from the tent guesthouses community to the actual Everest Base Camp. For the 4 km, it will take you about 1.5-2 hours on your physical condition. After sightseeing, we will drive back to Shigatse and enjoy the fabulous view along the way. Stay overnight in Shigatse, 3★

  • Day 7
    Shigatse - Lhasa, 300 km, Approx 5 hrs

    In Shigatse, we will visit Tashilunpo Monastery the home of Panchen Lama, it was founded by the 1st Dalai Lama in 1447, is a historic and culturally important monastery in Shigatse and also the second-largest city in Tibet. It located on a hill in the center of the city, the full name in Tibetan of the monastery means "all fortune and happiness gathered here" or "heap of glory". Drive back to Lhasa from Shigatse along the friendship way, the northern way to Lhasa. On the way, you’ll see the Yarlung Tsangpo valley. Stay overnight in Lhasa, 3★

  • Day 8
    Depart From Lhasa

    Our tours come to an end today. A representative from Thai Nepal Travels will take you to the airport approximately 2 hours before the scheduled flight or train.   • Tibet Tourism Bureau Permit (TTB) usually takes about 12-working-day to apply. If you couldn’t provide the required docs & info on time, an extra about USD 50~80/permit will be charged;
  • *We reserve the right to change the itinerary order and attractions in Lhasa;
  • If you prefer to book your own hotels over those included in our group tour, please meet the rest of the group at their daily hotel on time. We don’t include the transfers to your own hotels;
  • We need to pickup and drop off all tour members of the group on first & last day from Lhasa Airport/Railway, thus there may not always have guide presence but driver;
  • Due to the special nature of Tibet travel, any unforeseeable and unavoidable objective circumstances, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, terrorism, riot, civil commotion, strikes, public health emergencies, government action, major traffic jams, delay or cancellation of flight/train, attractions temporarily closed. etc., resulting in change of itinerary, the increased cost will be paid by travellers; if any attraction visits has to be cancelled due to the same reasons above, GTT wont be hold responsible for refund except certain attraction entrance fee which will be solely decided by GTT.
